Tips on how NOT to be Overwhelmed with Disney World Planning
One of the top comments I hear from people planning their first Disney World vacation is how they are overwhelmed with the planning process.
I totally get it. When I planned our first family trip it was well…. a lot.
For most people the goal of a vacation is to have fun and relax, not be stressed out. That’s why I want to help you with some tips that will hopefully help you on the path to NOT be overwhelmed with Disney World planning.
1. Make it fun
Researching your trip doesn’t have to mean spending hours on end head down in your computer. Think of ways to keep it fun.
In our family we like to get together and watch YouTube videos to prep for our trips. Some of our favorites include room tours and food reviews, but there are endless options.
Other suggestions are
- Find a Disney Parks centered podcast that you enjoy. Listen while you are doing chores, walking the dog, or in the school carpool lane.
- Think of a friend who has recently traveled to Disney World. Make plans to meet for coffee and ask about their vacation. (People love to talk about their Disney trips!)
- Get a physical or digital planner specifically for the trip. There are some really fun options now of Disney themed planners and stationary. Added bonus is that you will be even more organized for the trip!
2. Get Help From a Pro
If you are planning a trip for the first time using a vacation planner who specializes in Disney can be a huge help. A great agent will not only help you book the trip, but will also be there to answer questions, give advice, and keep you organized along the way.
If you are someone (like me) who absolutely loves planning every detail themselves, you can still get help. Social media is full of Disney vacation planners, influencers, and bloggers. Find a few you like and follow them for tips and advice.
(Every week I get emails and DMs from readers asking for help or advice, so always feel free to reach out with questions!)
3. Accept That There is No Such Thing as a Perfect Trip
So here is the hard truth.
You will not be able to:
- do everything
- plan everything
- know everything.
But you will be able to:
- Do lots of fun things. Making positive memories with your family is much more important than checking everything off your list. Decide a few things that are really important then anything else is just “extra”.
- Enjoy unplanned moments. Planning can help you feel in control, but also know to be flexible when called for. Again the goal should be family fun.
- Realize you will know a lot! If you are reading this- congratulations, you are already ahead of the game. Many people walk into Disney World with little to zero research. Evthe en a little prep and planning will take you far. Don’t stress yourself out with knowing every fact and up to date parks news and know that you are more prepared than most first timers.
